Email, SMS and paper can carry a message, but they do not give you one consistent record of who received it and what happened next. That gap matters when a notice, statement or demand letter is disputed.
- A phone number is not a verified identity
- Alerts cost ₦6 a message, while customers can choose free email instead. Since July 2026, CBN device-binding rules have also stopped treating a phone number as proof of identity.
- Sent is not the same as received
- A notice can be missed, a statement disputed, or a quit notice delivered to the wrong person. A status that says "sent" does not show who received it, when they opened it, or what they did next.
- Consent needs a durable record
- Annual audit returns fall due every 31 March. A useful consent record shows what each person agreed to, when they agreed, and the purpose they saw. NDPC enforcement shows why that record matters.
